Hot Yoga – The Workout of Your Life!


If you have already attended some of our Long Island yoga classes, then get ready for a new one.  It’s Long Island hot yoga, and it is an intense new class offered at Sole Pilates and Yoga.

Also known as Bikram yoga (Named after its creator, Bikram Choudhury), hot yoga is an intense 90 minute workout routine involving 26 yoga positions repeated twice each.  This is done in a studio room where the temperature is put up very high to encourage natural sweating of the body.  This helps the body to burn more calories as the act of sweating uses up energy stored in the body.

The added benefit of heating up the body in a 100-degree room is that it also increases the body’s flexibility, allowing for a more fulfilling yoga workout routine to be accomplished.

We should advise students wishing to attend a hot yoga class to drink plenty of fluids before and after the routine, as well as to avoid eating a couple of hours before the class.

Be sure to bring your own mat and towel, too.  If correctly done and if you drink plenty of fluids beforehand, you will sweat profusely during this routine!  Light clothing is recommended to keep your body from overheating.
